Cynthia West - “Seed Keepers” Poetry Reading & Book Signing: Sunday, April 7, 2024, 3 pm - 5 pm3/22/2024 Cynthia West, an iconic Santa Fe Poet and Artist, is well known for her visionary realist paintings and poetry. Cynthia is also skilled in photography, digital imaging, and book arts. Her home of fifty years, where she lives with her husband and family, is a healing center, as well as her studio and gallery. Many people travel great distances to be restored by her remarkable art and gardens.
This event marks the launch of Cynthia’s latest book of poems titled: “Seed Keepers”. About the book, Nina Simons, Co-founder of Bioneers and author of Nature, Culture and the Sacred writes: “Your book of poetry, Seed Keepers, is blessing my heart/mind/spirit wide open, and causing me to feel admiration of your courage, skill and eloquence as a poet. It is at once raw, real, lyrical, elegant, and profound, an offering of medicine that’s pure and beautiful as all your transmissions have been. Many thanks.” Cynthia West says, “Clouds, shadows, and branches drop clues, luring me to reach deeper than skin and bones, to touch the essence inside the appearance, the nothing that holds everything in its hands. Patience has years of seeking, one step after another in the dust, pathways that lead to water. My hand and eye never stop probing the changing shapes, now here, now gone, now flesh, now ghosts. Subtle hints flash in and out of form, quicker than loss or gain. Blown here and there, I coax the tree within to show its face. The view is turning, turning in and out of reach.”

Santa Fe photographer Gabriella Marks landed in New Mexico nearly two decades ago on intuition, but knows why she stays: the high desert light, lenticular clouds, the humbling experience of growing plants in the dry clay soil and ancient pueblo pottery shards in the garden, and perhaps with most resonance: living in a community with a deep legacy that to this day values the creation and curation of art.
Gabriella’s work focuses primarily on editorial portraiture and food and has been featured on the covers and within countless regional and national publications, as well as in the permanent collection of the New Mexico History Museum. Gabriella serves as Chair of the National Board of Directors of ASMP. |
