Wanema F. Garcia hails from the Pueblo of Acoma in New Mexico, the oldest community in the US. She is a second-generation potter and designer of both traditional and non-traditional pottery. Born of the Big Eagle clan and into the Little Yellow Corn clan. She began creating and designing at an early age of 12. She learned and continues to carry on the creative traditions of her mother Barabara Louise Vincente Garcia, including both her grandmothers Pablita R. Vicente (maternal) and Josephine Victorio Garcia (paternal). Her designs include many traditional and modern design elements such as black and white fine lines with modern coloring for variance. Michael Stanton has been working in clay since 1991. He is the recipient of the Special Award at the 2003 Tokyo-New York Friendship Ceramics Competition. He is currently teaching wheel throwing at Paseo Pottery in Santa Fe, NM. He is thrilled to be collaborating with Wanema Garcia. |
