The Only Radio - Karen Novotny
19.5 x 13 Archival Pigment Print
“Over my four trips to Cuba, I visited many private homes, discovering a series of visually rich interior spaces.
This image documents a family radio from decades ago, in a room fallen into neglect but still beautiful in a painterly way.”
Born to a father who was a distinguished realistic painter and a mother who was an accomplished pianist, I was of course influenced by their art and music. I tried my hand at many different creative endeavors but was ultimately drawn to computer software where I spent my career.
In my world travels, I was drawn to photographing architectural forms that have been seasoned by time, weather, and neglect.
I currently live in New Mexico where the badlands and other varied landscapes have added to my photographic portfolios.
My goal is to reveal the essential character of a place made clear in its architecture and landscape.
