Icebergs and Rescue Hut, Jökulsárlón, Iceland, 1985 - Jamey Stillings
16 x 20 Archival Pigment Print
“In 1985, I made my first visit to Iceland via Scotland and the Faroe Islands. Our journey around the Ring Road was more of an adventure than it is now. There was no development at the iceberg filled lake, Jökulsárlón, hence the rescue hut in the distance served a real purpose if one were caught in an extreme storm. Today, boat tours will take you out into the icebergs and you can buy souvenirs at the gift shop.
Many subjects of my Iceland photographs from 1985 have been transformed and modernized. Amazingly, this thirty-two-year-old photo has become a historical document.”
A passionate interest in and curiosity about people, world cultures, ideas, technology and the environment are guiding forces in my photography and life. In both assignment and personal project work, I draw on a diverse range of photographic skills and over thirty years of experience, nationally and internationally, from shooting documentary work to creating highly produced conceptual imagery. I strive for well-executed productions, paired with an approach that is open to both the planned and the unexpected. Energetic, creative collaboration and friendly effective teamwork are at the heart of my most successful projects.
