I went to the Warhol Factory for the first time on E. 33 St to photograph Warhol. I remember there being a lot of aluminum foil lining the walls, and it being kind of dark and creepy. I was introduced to Warhol, and he took me to a space where we were totally alone. He went into the bathroom and left the door open as he sat up on the sink with scissors, grooming his wig. I remember thinking I saw him trimming his nose hairs. He stood by a window and sat on this desk. I don’t remember a single word being exchanged. I had my one camera and one lens. The assignment was for Marie Paul-Pelle, the editor of Decoration Internationale, for a story on New Yorkers.
