This image is made from three frames I made on the set for the video. I printed these together in the darkroom before Photoshop. Michael Stipe is a remarkable subject for the camera. He has a way of sometimes seeming like he is moving in slow motion. It makes you notice that many of the things we do have both a conscious and subconscious component. I would never try to spiritually analze this photograph, but Michael’s composed perplexity is a curious thing to watch. “Never do the same thing once.”
