Even though all the guys in the band were from Gainesville, Tom was the real Los Angeles transplanted Floridian. He was a very complicated person. He gave me his phone number and asked me to call. His manager said that under no circumstances was I to call him. After pondering the potential consequences, I called him anyway. His management group once sent me to Universal Studios to take his picture, and it turned out to be their first rehearsal after a long break. They invited me to hang out and listen while they played covers of sixties songs. I think it was more fun for them to play the songs they remembered from their days in Florida than even some of their own current hits.
