“My work examines the struggles, joys, and extraordinary potential of humanity. In portraiture, I love capturing what I think of as “life-giving” gestures and gazes that embody curiosity, awe, courage, gratitude, and stillness. My landscapes and images of the natural world typically avoid human-made objects in order to share simple moments of profound beauty, as I believe that a natural function of the universe is to make beautiful that which we must protect.”
Born in Costa Rica and raised in the US, Erika Rand is a photographer, filmmaker, and art director. She has photographed or filmed the Dalai Lama, Elie Weisel, Jane Fonda, John Trudell, Moby, and Bassnectar. She produced a feature film on Tibet, and served as a film curator for Pangea Day, which reached over 60 million screens around the world. She is currently working on a photography project with the Hopi tribe of Northern Arizona.
