Departure - Ellen Jantzen
12 x 16 Archival Pigment Print
“How does one experience loss? What does loss look like? What is disappearing from our lives?
I am intrigued with how a person adapts to losses in their lives; how they are absorbed by events and then changed. I set about to address these issues through a photographic photosynthesis in this body of work. Choosing photography as the medium helped me to reveal reality while at the same time evoking a dream state.”
Ellen Jantzen was born and raised in St. Louis and moved to California in 1990 to attend FIDM in downtown Los Angeles. There, she obtained an advanced degree in Fashion in 1992. After working at Mattel Toy Co. for a few years, she longed for a more personal art form.
As digital technology advanced and newer cameras were producing excellent resolution, she found her perfect medium. It was a true confluence of technological advancements and creative desire that culminated in her current body of work.
Jantzen currently resides in Santa Fe, NM.
